Government to Subsidize Sow Production

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2012-08-23 13:11:23China Agriculture Report Print

In view of hog price decline, the State Development Commission kicked off reserve-oriented frozen pork procurement last month. The Ministry of Agriculture issued a notice last week on the supply of RMB100 subsidy to each brood sow that gave birth to at least one piglet in the past and is still capable of producing piglets.

Thanks to the government's favorable policy, hog price has picked up over the last few weeks. With the coming of the busy season of pork consumption, the demand for pork is anticipated to go up in the near future. Hog supply is abundant at present. Considering the slowdown of economy, hog demand is unlikely to swell substantially. BOABC predicts that hog price may rise moderately before the Moon Festival and drop after the festival.
