Macquaire announced sugar production may shrink by 8% to 24.2 million tons in India in 2012/13 pursuant to insufficient rainfall.

The Indian meteorological department revealed the rainfall during the monsoon season since 1st June had been 17% less than the historical average, whereas rainfall during a monsoon season accounts for 70% of the yearly rainfall of the country.

In addition, since the domestic consumption shall rise by 1.7% to 24.60 million tons, India may prohibit export, whereas India has been a net sugar exporter in the past two years.
