Russia: Beet Sugar Production in 2012 May Be Lower than Last Year

The Russian Agricultural Ministry stated beet sugar production in 2012 may be lower than the level in 2011 due to forecast on lower yield.

Beet production is foreseen to be 40 million tons, less than the 46.2 million tons in 2011.

The Ministry predicted sugar production shall be 4.70-5.20 million tons and export could be 350,000 tons.

Russia produced 5.1 million tons sugar in 2011, a historical record and it exported over 300,000 tons. It became a sugar exporter for the first time.
