Weekly Hot Spots on China Grain Market

1. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s planted grain acreage is 111.267 million hectares this year, including 30.297 million hectares of paddy, 34.949 million hectares of corn and 24.139 million hectares of wheat, which were 694,000 hectares more, 240,000 hectares more, 1.407 million hectares more but 131,000 hectares less than last year respectively. Grain production increased 3.58 million MT on account of acreage expansion.

2. Grain yield averages 5,299kg/hectare this year, 133kg/hectare more than last year. The yield of paddy, wheat and corn is 6,743kg/hectare, 4,995kg/hectare and 5,955kg/hectare respectively, 55kg/hectare, 158kg/hectare and 207kg/hectare more than last year respectively. Crop yield increase resulted in a grain production increase of 14.78 million MT.

3. Grain production in thirteen major grain production provinces adds up to 446.1 million MT this year, including 208.12 million MT corn, 204.29 million MT paddy and 120.58 million MT wheat, exceeding last year by 11.88 million MT, 15.34 million MT, 3.28 million MT and 3.18 million MT respectively.

4. The Chinese Agricultural Leading Enterprise Association was established in Beijing on November 27 with an aim of promoting coordination, management, service, information exchange, technical training and exhibition-organizing.

5. The Ministry of Finance has decided to exempt farm product markets from real estate tax and urban land use tax from 2013 to 2015.

6. China’s large grain and vegoil markets realized a total sales value of RMB139.947 billion in 2011.

7. COFCO and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have recently signed an agreement for the purpose of technical innovation and development of new products with powerful competitiveness.
