Cotton Imports in January

By CnAgri2013-03-06 10:36:01 Print According to the customs, China’s uncombed cotton imports registered 457,500 MT in January, 14% less than the month before but 40% more than the same period of last year. Cotton import value was $853 million in January, representing a growth 8.9% on the year-on-year basis and accounting for 8.4% of the total farm product import value.
 
Cotton imports came from thirty-two countries in January. India, the USA and Uzbekistan ranked top three among them with a supply of 173,500 MT, 109,100 MT and 44,400 MT respectively, accounting for 37.92%, 23.85% and 9.71% of the total respectively.
 
Nineteen Chinese provinces imported cotton in January. The top three provinces were Shandong, Jiangsu and Shanghai with a quantity of 166,400 MT, 134,100 MT and 57,100 MT respectively, accounting for 36.36%, 29.3% and 12.49% of the total respectively.
 
269 companies were engaged in cotton imports in January. The top ten’s imports accounted for 34.4% of the total. Xinjiang Yinlong Agricultural International Cooperation Co., Ltd., Zhangjiagang Bonded Zone Zhongrong Distribution Co., Ltd., Chinatex Cotton Import & Export Co., Ltd. and the Chinese Cotton Group Co., Ltd. ranked top four with a quantity of 27,800 MT, 25,300 MT, 22,400 MT and 22,200 MT respectively, accounting for 6.07%, 5.53%, 4.9% and 4.85% of the total respectively. China Cotton Reserves Co., Ltd. ranked 12 with 6,621 MT.
 
Uncombed cotton imports totaled 2.133 million MT during August of 2012 and January of 2013, a drop of 3.32% on the year-on-year basis. Considering the big price gap between home and aboard, cotton imports are presumed to reach a high level this year if quotas are sufficient.
