FMC’s Obey herbicide registered for rice growers

China Agriculture Report By CnAgriChina Agriculture Report Print FMC recently received U.S. EPA approval for Obey herbicide (active ingredients: quinclorac + clomazone). Obey is a new, dual mode of action herbicide for controlling annual grass and broadleaf weeds in Southern rice.

"A limited supply of Obey will be available to Delta rice growers for field use next spring,” said Stu Throop, FMC Agricultural Products North America product manager. “We recommend growers use Obey postemergence in a split application program, following Command 3ME herbicide applied pre. Sequential applications of Command and Obey extend grass control by overlapping residuals, helping to maximize early development of the rice crop.”

The Obey herbicide label enables flexible application timing, allowing growers to use the product when it best fits their specific weed management programs. This versatility helps to keep rice fields free of yield-robbing weeds until permanent flood. The unique composition of Obey also gives growers a tool to combat an increasing incidence of herbicide-resistant barnyardgrass in rice production.
