Rice production estimated to be 11.112 million MT in June in China

Rice production by mills of various scales was estimated to be 11.112 million MT in June and 52.788 million MT in January ~ June. Of the total, 10.038 million MT were produced by medium and large mills.
Rice imports were 213,000 MT in June and 1.188 million MT in January ~ June, up 2.83 times and 2.33 times respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Rice supply and consumption were estimated to be 12.394 million MT and 11.275 million MT respectively in June, down 1.63% and 1.44% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Rice consumption for food use was 10.473 million MT in June, including 7.442 million MT consumed by households, 2.904 million MT by the catering industry and 127,000 MT by the food industry, down 2.21%, down 1.24%, down 5.32% but up 18.72% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
619,000 MT rice was consumed for feed production, an increase of 12.02% on the year-on-year basis. 182,000 MT rice was consumed for industrial uses. Taking into account of exports, rice consumption totaled 11.298 million MT in June.
49.999 million MT rice was consumed for food use in January ~ June, 3.023 million MT for feed production and 864,000 MT for industrial uses, up 0.59%, up 9.59% but down 7.44% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Low returns from starch sugar production subdued rice consumption for industrial uses.
Of the rice consumed for food use, 44.22% were consumed by rural households, 21.65% by urban households and 25.7% by the catering industry in June; 44.1% were consumed by rural households, 21.65% by urban households and 25.7% by the catering industry in January ~ June.
Rice consumption is predicted to be 122.8 million MT this year. Of the total, 112 million MT may be consumed for food use, 7.263 million MT for feed production and 1.88 million MT for industrial uses, up 1%, 20% and 2% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Rice sale/production ratio was 101.68% in June and rice inventory dropped slightly to a level of 1.096 million MT at the end of June.
