According to the yearbook issued by the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s planted cotton acreage and cotton production were 4.7 million hectares and 6.84 million MT in 2012, a reduction of 340,000 hectares but an increase of 3.8% on the year-on-year basis respectively.
 
The Chinese Cotton Association’s figure of cotton production in 2012 is 7.42 million MT, 1.8% more than the previous year. The State Cotton Monitoring Center’s estimate is 7.614 million MT. BOABC estimates that cotton production was about 7.8 million MT last year.
 
Cotton procurement totaled 6.255 million MT by March 1, reflecting a bumper harvest in 2012. Cotton procurement in Hubei, Shandong and Hebei registered 503,000 MT, 453,200 MT and 357,800 MT respectively.
 
6.895 million MT cotton underwent notarized quality verification in 2012/2013 by March 3, including 4.416 million MT in Xinjiang, 663,500 MT in Shandong, 562,700 MT in Hubei, 498,700 MT in Hebei, etc.
 
Planted cotton acreage is predicted to shrink 4.01% in 2013 from last year, mainly in Henan, Hebei, Jiangsu and Anhui. Cotton production is predicted to be 7.597 million MT in 2013, a drop of 3.85% from last year.
