Grain Imports & Exports in January

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-03-08 10:17:07China Agriculture Report Print According to the customs, China’s grain imports registered 1.001 million MT in January, 84.83% more than the month before but 10.55% less than the same period of last year. The imports consisted of 179,400 MT wheat, 304,000 MT rice, 396,700 MT corn and 121,700 MT barley. 99.35% of the corn imports were GMO corn from the USA. 394,100 MT of the imported corn were handled by COFCO. Corn import price was $289/MT in January, $38.3/MT below the Chinese market price.
 
Grain exports were 34,767 MT in January, 51.45% more than the month before but 33.59% less than the same period of last year. The exports consisted of 38,220 MT rice, 540 MT corn and 7 MT barley. Grain exports were blocked by high price in the Chinese market.
 
Processed grain product imports were 37,052 MT in January, 4.4% less than the month before but 214.36% more than the same period of last year. The imports consisted of 37,052 MT denatured starch, 2,032 MT flour and 59 million MT starch. Denatured starch imports are free from quota control and are subject to a low tariff of 6%.
 
Processed grain product exports were 29,250 MT in January, 35.41% less than the month before and 26.1% less than the same period of last year. The exports consisted of 9,848 MT flour, 7,908 MT starch and 11,493 MT denatured starch.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports equaled to 57,003 MT and 45,000 MT raw grains respectively. In general, the nation’s grain imports and exports were 1.059 million MT and 84,000 MT respectively in January, down 7% and 30% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
