Estimates of Cotton Production in 2013

During June ~ August, cotton crop was affected by excessive rains in North China and drought in the Yangtze River reaches. The crop was blessed with a favorable weather in the Northwest and Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu.Planted cotton acreage is about 4.9 million hectares this year, a drop of 5.45% from last year. Xinjiang and Gansu jointly contribute to 45.31% of the nation’s total. In East China, cotton acreage shrinks about 8~ 13% this year from last year. On the other hand, cotton yield is estimated to keep going up in the nation.
Lint cotton production is predicted to be 7.59 million MT this year, a drop of 3.76% from last year.
7.206 million MT cotton underwent notarized quality verification in 2012/2013. BOABC estimates that total cotton production in 2012/2013 is about 7.887 million MT.
