Grain Production & Consumption in September 2013
By CnAgri2013-11-11 14:20:17 Print China’s planted grain acreage and grain production are estimated to be 111.7 million hectares and 593.1 million MT in 2013. Grain imports are predicted to be more than 15 million MT. While supply grows noticeably, consumption grows slowly.Grain consumption for food use was estimated to be 24.608 million MT in Sept., including 8.865 million MT consumed by rural households, 7.043 million MT by urban households and 8.701 million MT by the catering industry, down 0.53%, down 2.53%, up 1.97% but down 0.42% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Grain consumption for food use totaled 208.3 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., a growth of 3.07% on the year-on-year basis.
Grain consumption for feed use was 17.31 million MT in Sept. and 128 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., excluding oilseed meal consumption, 7.16% and 0.86% more than the same period of last year respectively.
Grain consumption for alcohol production was 3.814 million MT in Sept. and 33.573 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., 6.34% and 6.23% more than the same period of last year respectively.
6.952 million MT grains were consumed for industrial uses in Sept., 5.87% more than the month before and 8.36% more than the same period of last year. Grain consumption for industrial uses totaled 63.253 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept. Starch mills produced 2.1 million MT starch at the cost of 3.138 million MT grains.
Starch and ethanol production generated a profit of RMB119/MT and a loss of RMB477/MT respectively in Sept.
Grain consumption for various uses totaled 51.349 million MT in Sept., leaving an inventory of 407.6 million MT at the end of the month, suggesting a monthly consumption index of 7.95. The inventory consisted of 134 million MT paddy, 123 million MT corn, 108 million MT wheat, 1.993 million MT barley and 39.12 million MT others. Of the grain stock in Sept., 145 million MT were held by state-run companies, 162 million MT by farmers and 59.3 million MT by others.
Grain inventory and safety index are predicted to be 241 million MT and 41.27% respectively at the end of this crop year.
