Grain Imports & Exports in Oct. 2013

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-12-02 11:26:31China Agriculture Report Print According to the Customs, China’s grain imports hit a monthly new high of 2.09 million MT in Oct., a significant increase of 86.6% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Of the total, 1.307 million MT were wheat, 140,900 MT rice, 38,900 MT corn and 322,800 MT barley, up 273.3%, up 30.53%, down 91.27% but up 60.85% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain imports totaled 9.693 million MT in Jan. ~ Oct., a slip of 21.64% on the year-on-year basis. Of the total, wheat, rice, corn and barley recorded 5.14 million MT, 1.856 million MT, 1.645 million MT and 2.042 million MT respectively, down 16.4%, up 6.42%, up 63.89% and up 9.84% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Exports of wheat, rice, corn and barley totaled 42,486 MT in Oct., 51.16% less than the month before but 253% more than the same period of last year. The exports consisted of 42,109 MT rice, 375 million MT corn and 2 MT barley. Domestic high grain price curbed exports.
 
Non state-run companies almost used up their grain import quotas by Oct.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports registered 28,968 MT and 36,536 MT respectively in Oct., down 3.52% and 22.05% respectively on the year-on-year basis. The imports consisted of 26,241 MT denatured starch, 2,613 MT flour and 114 MT starch. The exports consisted of 23,059 MT flour, 5,535 MT starch and 9,989 MT denatured starch, down 19.48%, 24.38% and 27.23% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports in Oct. equaled to 44,565 MT raw grains and 56,209 MT raw grains respectively.
 
Of the grain imports in Oct., 200,800 MT were sorghum, 198,700 MT of which came from Australia. Sorghum is consumed by the alcohol and feed industries, but domestic production falls far short of demand.。
