China Wheaten Food & Rice Food Production and Industrial Consumption of Rice and Flour in Dec. 2013

Substitution of industrial food to household staple food is significant, which promoted food consumption and thereby drove grain consumption.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, production of instant noodles and frozen wheaten and rice food totaled 1.5792 million MT in Dec., up 10.20% YOY and up 6.85% MOM and totaled 12.1758 million MT in Jan.-Dec., up 18.62% YOY.
For different food varieties:
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s instant noodles production was 0.9456 million MT in Dec. and 10.3076 million MT in Jan. ~ Dec., down 4.97% but up 5.26% respectively on the year-on-year basis. According to historical data, the production in Dec. declined 0.57% YOY and up 5.5% MOM; the production totaled 10.233 million MT in Jan.-Dec., up 7.14% YOY.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s frozen wheaten and rice food production was 0.6336 million MT in Dec. and 5.7271 million MT in Jan. ~ Dec., up 12.85% and up 18.57% respectively on the year-on-year basis. According to historical data, the production in Dec. increased 31.46% YOY and 8.9% MOM; the production totaled 5.943 million MT in Jan.-Dec., up 45.52% YOY.
BOABC estimates that cookie and cake productions were about 643,000 MT and 221,600 MT respectively in Dec. and were 6.872 million MT and 2.0731 million MT respectively in Jan.-Dec. 2013. Wheaten and rice food production totaled 2.442 million MT, up 11.8% YOY and up 5.91% MOM. the production totaled 25.121 million MT in Jan.-Dec., up 17.33% YOY.
According to wheaten and rice food production, wheaten food enterprises consumed flour 1.443 million MT in Dec. and 15.2681 million MT in Jan.-Dec., up 6.80% and up 11.98% YOY respectively and up 5.45% MOM, accounting for 11.41% and 11.53%of total flour production respectively.
244300 MT rice was consumed in Dec. and 2.375 million MT in Jan. ~ Dec.. for rice food production, up 22.31% and 27.54% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Rice consumption in rice food showed fast increase.
