African swine fever continued to spread, and pig farmers in infected areas may face the risk of capital chain breakage

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2018-09-12 10:33:10China Agriculture Report Print As of September 3, 14 outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed in the country during the past 30 days since the first outbreak was recorded in Liaoning on August 3. The epidemic situation in Anhui province is the most serious, in addition, outbreaks also were reported in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Heilongjiang and Liaoning. At present, the disease is still likely to continue to spread.
In order to prevent the spread of the disease, all localities have increased epidemic control and prevention, which brought to greater risks to farmers. According to BOABC’s interviews with pig farms in Henan, most farmers said “ at present, the biggest problem is not the decrease in pig prices but the obtaining of quarantine ticket. In Henan, there was only one case of African swine fever in Henan, and pigs are only forbidden to be moved to areas outside the province and can be circulated in the province. However, the quarantine department is afraid of cross-infection and has tightened the transportation and quarantine procedures, and quarantine tickets are not easy to obtain.” At present, the quarantine in Anhui Province where more outbreaks have been reported is even more stricter.
Affected by the disease, in big pig raising provinces of Henan and Anhui, quite a few farms are confront with the fact that fattened hogs occupy pig houses due to delayed sales and piglets are difficult to sell, facing the danger of capital chain breakage.
At the same time, it should also be noted that there are restrictions on the transportation of live pigs in many places in the country currently, and frozen carcass which has passed detection can be circulated. For enterprises with their own slaughterhouses, the impact of African swine fever is smaller, and single-business pig companies are greater affected.
