Global egg production grows slowly, but China’s layer industry has huge development potential

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2017-09-14 09:45:49China Agriculture Report Print China is world’s largest producer and consumer of egg, accounting for 35.2% of global egg production, and other main producing countries respectively are the USA, India, Mexico and Japan with production proportions of 8.6%, 5.7%, 3.7% and 3.6% respectively. Egg production of top five countries totally account for 56.8% of global egg production.
 
Globally, egg production basically was increasing slowly. The average growth rate was 3.97% from 1997 to 2000, 2.40% from 2000 to 2010 and 1.86% from 2010 to 2016, obviously slowing down. Global egg production reached 71.57 million tons in 2016, only increasing 1.09% from 2015. For high concentration and branding and strong deep processing capacity of layer industry, western developed countries turn focus to layer welfare from egg product quality.
 
Egg production and consumption is in the stable development period with limited growth in the future in China, and the changes in China’s layer industry mainly are reflected in the increase of industrial concentration and branding degree and the improvement of product quality, and great potential of deep processing provides greater space for the development and upgrading of China’s layer industry.
