Longping High-Tech to spread hybrid rice across South America

China Agriculture Report By CnAgriChina Agriculture Report Print Recently Longping High-Tech, a Chinese seeds company, has entered into an agreement with the Republic of Surinam where Longping High-Tech is going to establish a comprehensive agricultural park to deploy its hybrid rice, which will gradually spread across South America.
 
Surinam is located north of South America, covered with rich ecological and agricultural resources. Its rice planting area reaches 50% of arable area, of which 43% of the planted rice is exported accounting for 8% of the total output. Surinam desires to cooperate with China in development of novel rice as appropriate for local plantation, which allows for an increase of output with maximized protection of local environment.

Longping High-Tech is a high-tech oriented company specializing in seed development centered on hybrid rice, being dedicated to new crop breeding including hybrid rice, hybrid chili, quality melon, vegetable, cotton, mice and rape.

It is reported that the Surinam Agricultural Park, which is divided into the Core Zone, Development Zone and Radiation Zone, will encompass research, production and industrialization of hybrid rice. The phase 1 takes an area of 300 hectares, focusing on hybrid rice research and experiment while the phase 2 is expected to grow up to an area of 500 hectares.

So far the project feasibility study and preparatory work have been completed, to be followed by a training program provided free to technical personnel of Surinam in the second half of this year.
