Potassium Import Contracts Signed

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-01-14 11:20:45China Agriculture Report Print     Since the second half of 2012, Chinese potassium importers have kept bargaining with international suppliers, with the Chinese insisting on an import price of $350/MT but the suppliers sticking to $450/MT. On the last day of 2012, Sinochem eventually clinched a deal with Canpotex on the purchase of 1 million MT potassium chloride in the first half of 2013 at $400/MT (CFR), a price $70/MT below the same period of the previous year. On January 4, Sinochem and China Farm Supply Group struck a deal of 700,000 MT potassium with BPC at the same price. APC and ICL are expected to follow suit before the end of January. What made international suppliers compromise was the potassium market surplus in the Chinese market.

Potassium is sold at RMB2,600 ~ 2,800/MT in the Chinese market currently. Low potassium import price and abundant market supply may have an impact on the market price. Since the uncertainty in potassium supply is cleared away, domestic traders are expected to start to stock up on potassium soon for spring plowing.
