Food Industry’s Boom Index in April
By CnAgri2013-05-31 10:53:11 Print The food industry’s boom index was 8.7 in April, below the 9.84 recorded in the month before.The catering industry’s retail value was RMB182.2 billion in April, up 7.9% on the year-on-year basis. The nation’s grain and vegoil retail value was RMB103 billion in April, up 11.9% on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 3.75% and 6.37% respectively.
Food consumption value accounted for 16.2% of the nation’s total commodity retail value in April, down 0.2% on the year-on-year basis. Food consumption was subdued by food price increase.
Taking into account of food and beverage sales by various enterprises, the nation’s food consumption value actually grew 1.7% in April on the year-on-year basis.
The farm-product-processing industry and the food-making industry realized an added value increase by 8.8% and 11.9% in April on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 8.15% and 11.23% respectively, suggesting a steady growth of food production.
The farm-product-processing industry received RMB61.677 billion investment in April, the food-making industry RMB28.365 billion, the beverage industry RMB25.285 billion and the hotel and restaurant industry RMB49.388 billion, up 25.66%, 17.13%, 37.79% and 14.02% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 28.26%, 19.73%, 37.8% and 16.6% respectively. The above investment jointly accounted for 5% of the nation’s total investment. Food price growth spurred investment into the industry.
Grain-processing generated a gross profit ratio of 9.47% in April, slightly less than the month before, attributable to grain price growth. Specifically, the profit was 7.53% in flour production, 13.91% in japonica production, 12.18% in indica production, 5.17% in starch production and –3.27% in ethanol production.
Flour shipment and sale generated a gross profit of 14.86%, slightly less than the month before. Rice shipment and sale led to a gross profit of 15.07%. The shipment and sale of flour and japonica in small packages generated a profit of 24.04% and 22.73% respectively.
