Grain Consumption for Food Use in 2012

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-06-24 11:27:51China Agriculture Report Print According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s urban per capita food expense value was RMB6,040 in 2012, up 9.98% on the year-on-year basis. This sum accounted for 36.23% of urban per capita total expenses in 2012, down 0.09% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Per capita food expenses totaled RMB5.79 trillion in the nation in 2012, including RMB4.3 trillion in urban areas and RMB1.49 trillion in rural areas, up 11.61%, 13.05% and 7.87% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 6.9%, 7.9% and 3.9% respectively.
 
Urban per capita grain and vegoil consumption dropped 2.4% and 2.2% on the year-on-year basis to a level of 78.8kg and 9.1kg respectively, but meat, poultry, egg and aquatic product consumption went up 1.22%, 1.89%, 4.11% and 1.47% respectively on the year-on-year basis to a level of 24.9kg, 10.8kg, 15.2kg and 6.9kg respectively.
 
Rural per capita grain consumption dropped 3.75% to a level of 164.3kg, poultry and aquatic product consumption stayed at 4.5kg and 5.4kg respectively, but vegoil, meat and egg consumption grew 4.05%, 0.61% and 9.26% to a level of 7.8kg, 16.4kg and 5.9kg respectively.
 
186 million MT grains were consumed in China in 2012 for food use, 107 million MT consumed for feed production and 5.67 million MT consumed for alcohol production.
 
Considering grain consumption for various uses, 487 million MT grains were consumed for food use in 2012, including 247.7 million MT for direct food use, 151 million MT for feed production and 8 million MT for alcohol production, up 0.22%, down 2.85%, up 3.75% but down 0.47% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
