Aquatic Product Imports & Exports in January ~ June

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-09-12 11:11:01China Agriculture Report Print According to the customs, China’s aquatic product imports registered 2.066 million MT in the first half of this year, valuing $4.112 billion, up 1.55% and 9.56% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Aquatic product exports were 1.877 million MT in the meantime, valuing $9.595 billion, up 5.21% and 9.71% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Aquatic product export value accounted for 30% of total farm product export value, 0.7% more than the same period of last year.
 
Aquatic product export volume and value under normal trade recorded 1.221 million MT and $6.933 billion, up 7.2% and 14.77% respectively on the year-on-year basis. While prawn exports increased, shellfish, sea-eel and cray exports went down.
 
Aquatic product export volume and value under the trade mode of “processing foreign-supplied raw material” registered 549,000 MT and $2.525 billion, up 2.39% but down 2.12% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Exports under this mode are prone to decline because of rising cost of production and fierce competition with Southeast Asian countries.
 
Japan and USA remained the top two destination markets of Chinese aquatic product exports. But the quantity and value of aquatic product exports to Japan tumbled 9.18% and 12.08% respectively on the year-on-year basis. EU and South Korea were the fifth and sixth of China’s destination markets respectively. Exports to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries swelled more than 40% on the year-on-year basis.
 
The nation’s leading aquatic product exporting provinces were Fujian, Shandong, Guangdong, Guangxi, Liaoning, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Guangdong and Guangxi enjoyed a rapid export increase but Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Hainan witnessed a retreat.
 
Fishmeal imports recorded 438,500 MT in the first half of this year, valuing $808 million, down 27.23% and 4.71% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
