Tentative data reflects there were more than 12 million dairy goats in 2012 and of which 2.3 million in Shaanxi, 2.1 million in Shandong, 1.17 million in Henan, 670,000 in Hebei, 560,000 in Gansu, 530,000 in Xinjiang, 520,000 in Shanxi, 510,000 in Yunnan and 450,000 in Inner Mongolia. The breeds are Xinongsha, Guanzhong, Laoshan and Wendeng. The annual goat milk production is around 3.6 million tons, of which 1/3 for producing commercial milk. Currently there are 14 million dairy goats in China. The future development shall not put priority to the growth of inventory but transition and upgrading shall be the main target. The Government subsidizes 1 billion yuan per year for scaled dairy farming and 35% of the dairy farms are of the inventory above 100 cows. The Government shall no longer support farms with less than 300 cows.
