Alfalfa Import up 101.29% YOY in the First Seven Months of 2013

Data from China Customs indicates China imported 445,847 tons alfalfa (including particles, powder and hay) during the first seven months of 2013, up 101.29% year on year; the monthly average import price was 379.91 US dollars/ton, down 7.14% year on year; of which alfalfa import in July was 57,026 tons, up 71.25% year on year, import price 382 US dollars/ton, down 7.68% year on year. During the first seven months, there was rapid grwoth of domestic scaled dairy farms but there was insufficient supply of quality feed, which led to a rapid growth of alfalfa import.
