China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-12-17 09:32:25China Agriculture Report Print

In December, China continued importing breeding livestock and poultry from abroad: on Dec. 3rd, 1,349 heads Canadian breeding pig imported by Beijing Top Breeding Import and Export Co. Ltd. arrived in Xiamen, Fujian, including four varieties, big Yorkshire, Landrace, Pietrain and Duroc.

On Dec. 5th, 600 heads France breeding pig arrived in Nanchang agented by China Animal Husbandry Group and imported by Jiangxi Lvhuanmuye Co., Ltd..

Recently, 2,931 heads Australian breeding beef cattle arrived in Fuzhou, Fujian, which was by far the greatest number of breeding beef cattle entering China. And these cattle were delivered to Xinjiang after 45 days’ quarantine.

In spite China livestock breeding industry is flagging in 2013, imports of some breeding livestock and poultry keep at high level. Except import of breeding cattle sees decline, imports of breeding pig and breeding hen still sees substantial increase. In Jan.-Oct., 2013, China imported 15,228 heads breeding pigs and 2.54 million breeding hens, up 31.84% and 25.62% respectively on the year-on-year basis and import price declined 7.11% but increased 5.75% respectively. China breeding hen industry has suffered great loss influenced by H7N9 and continuous irrational introduction caused serious surplus in the source of China broiler breeding industry. China imported breeding cattle 75,068 heads, down 24.48% YOY and price down 7.89% YOY, which indicated China cow and beef cattle breeding industry was still in crisis.

Import price decline of breeding pig and breeding cattle should be highly noted. If China livestock breeding industry sees no recovery in 2014, the widely-favored China breeding pig industry shall see fundamental reversal. Of course, with more and more enterprises entering hog breeding industry chain, large sized enterprises still need large amounts of introduction to meet expanding demand. So demand for breeding pig import is still strong. In terms of parental breeding pig and commercial pig sales, it is quite doubtful if the market can consume and support so many introductions.
