Domestic Broiler Price to Decline with Avian Flu

Broiler:On Dec. 25th, 2013, in the major broiler wholesale markets of the 36 medium-and-large sized cities, the average price of fresh chicken meat is RMB14.26Yuan/KG, up 1.64% compared with last week. The purchasing price from farms of broiler chicken was RMB8.30Yuan/KG this week, down 1.31% compared with last week, the chick price was RMB0.29 each, down 3.33% compared with last week. MOA announced that highly pathogenic avian flu H5N2 was noted in Hebei last week, so some farmers slaughtered broiler in advance to avoid great loss, causing broiler slaughtering price to decline. Meanwhile, slaughterhouses lowered down broiler purchasing price. Thus, domestic chicken price is predicted to decline slightly in future.
   
This week the average wholesale price of live broilers is RMB13.68Yuan/KG in main producing regions, down 5.26% compared with last week. Highly pathogenic avian flu was noted in Hebei last week, plus with avian flu cases increase, domestic live poultry trade shrank seriously, down 50% in some trade markets in Guangdong. It was understood breeding farmers suffered a lot loss from the avian flu and slaughter price for live broiler declined but the wholesale and retail price remained stable. It is predicted domestic live broiler price shall run weak in short terms. (Figure 4)
