Cargill to resume operations at beef packing plant in Kansas

Cargill, an American agribusiness giant, is set to resume operations at its beef packing plant in Dodge City, Kansas as early as this week.

The facility, which reportedly processes about 5,000 cattle heads per day and employs more than 2,700 people, was damaged by fire, earlier this week.

Cargill spokesman Michael Martin was quoted by Reuters as saying that cleanup process has commenced at the plant and it would be operational by Saturday.

"Tomorrow, we anticipate fabrication work, separation of meat cuts for customers, on the second shift and possibly some harvesting as well," Martin added.

Modifications to the plant include roofing materials, insulation and certain electrical wiring.

Investigations into the cause of fire are ongoing and Cargill said that the incident caused an estimated $250,000 in damage.
