Analysis of China Rice Production and Wheat Balance in 2013

According to data from National Bureau of Statistics, rice production in enterprises above designated size registered 117.7 million MT in 2013, up 10.25% on year-on-year basis. Production of top 10 producing provinces registered 107 million MT, accounting for 91.16%. Rice production exceeds 15 million MT in Hubei, Heilongjiang and Anhui, registering 22.4177 million MT, 16.1993 millionMT and 15.7696 million MT.
  
Converting to paddy consumption, it registered 173 million MT in enterprises above designated size and 183 million MT with consideration of production in medium and small enterprises. Consumption in top 10 provinces totaled 178 million MT. It registered 37.15 million MT, 26.84 million MT and 26.1311 million MT respectively in Hubei, Heilongjiang and Anhui.

Based on paddy production and consumption, paddy surplus registered 21.361 million MT in 2013, down 17.15% from 2012. 11 provinces had paddy demand gap, totaling 56.9 million MT, up 18.10% from 2012. Hubei, Anhui and Jilin ranked top 3 with 21.39 million MT, 11.95 million MT and 9.26 million MT respectively. The other provinces had surplus, totaling 78.27 million MT, up 6% from 2012. Jiangxi, Guangdong and Guangxi ranked top 3 with 9.87 million MT, 9.34 million MT and 7.73 million MT.
