Analysis of China Feed Production and Corn Balance in 2013

According to data from National Bureau of Statistics, feed production in enterprises above designated size declined in 2013 with impacts of avian flu and corn price decline, increase of concentrated feed and additive pre-mix feed production, farmers mostly chose self-made feed.
  
  Compound feed production registered 139 million MT in enterprises above designated size in 2013, up 9.21% on year-on-year basis. Production in Shandong, Guangdong, Guangxi, Liaoning and Jiangxi exceeded 10 million MT, registering 20.01 million MT, 12.25 million MT, 10.55 million MT, 10.25 million MT and 10.13 million MT respectively, up 0.45%, 8.78%, 18.99%, 7.16% and 16.77% respectively on year-on-year basis.
  
Concentrated feed production registered 59.39 million MT in 2013, up 7.56% from 2012. Production in Shandong and Liaoning exceeded 6 million MT, registering 6.78 million MT and 6.38 million MT respectively, up 5.44% and 2.09% respectively on year-on basis.

  Based on monthly production of key enterprises and production of concentrated feed and compound feed, BOABC estimates industrial feed production totaled 207 million MT in 2013, down 4.67% from 2012. Shandong, Guangdong and Jilin ranked top 3 with production of 28.13 million MT, 17.83 million MT and 16.93 million MT respectively. The feed production included 148 million MT compound feed, 53.61 million MT concentrated feed and 6.177 million MT additive pre-mix feed.
  
  Production of compound feed and concentrated feed was equivalent to 301 million MT complete feed, up 123.7% from 2012. Production in Shandong, Liaoning, Guangdong and Henan exceeded 20 million MT, registering 38.8 million MT, 27.37 million MT, 25.16 million MT and 22.34 million MT respectively. Energy feed production totaled 182 million MT. Demand for energy feed in Shandong, Liaoning, Guangdong and Henan registered 23.51 million MT, 16.59 million MT, 15.25 million MT and 13.54 million MT respectively.
  
  Based on corn utilization, corn consumption for feed totaled 131 million MT. Shandong, Henan, Sichuan and Hebei ranked top 4 with consumption of 17.2 million MT, 12.75 million MT, 11.69 million MT and 11.51 million MT.
  
  Deducting corn consumption for feed, corn surplus registered 83.6 million MT. 12 provinces had corn gap for feed, totaling 39.94 million MT. Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Hubei and Guangxi ranked top 5 with gap of 6.81 million MT, 6.4 million MT, 5.07 million MT, 4.86 million MT and 4.29 million MT respectively. The gap can be filled by poor quality paddy in Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi. Feed surplus totaled 124 million MT. The surplus in NE four provinces registered the most with 74.73 million MT, accounting for 60.5% of total surplus. Corn surplus in Heilongjiangm Jilin and Inner Mongolia registered 29.2 million MT, 21.39 million MT and 16.82 million MT respectively.
