Thanks to Favorable Policies, Market Scale of Organic Fertilizer Would Top 105 Billion RMB This Year

In recent years, new policies related to organic fertilizer industry have been unveiling:

In March 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture published Action Plan of Zero Growth in Use of Fertilizer by 2020, which proposed to increase the utilization of organic fertilizer and cut down irrational fertilizer input.

In May 2016, the State Department released Action Plan of Prevention and Control on Soil Pollution, which proposed to encourage farmers to increase the use of organic fertilizer, cut down the use of fertilizer and combine crop planting with the use of livestock manure in scaled livestock farming areas.

On February 5th, 2017, the No. 1 document from the national central government first proposed to conduct the pilots of developing organic fertilizer instead of fertilizer.

On February 10th, 2017, the Ministry of Agriculture published Action Plan of Developing Fruit-Vegetable-Tea Organic Fertilizer Instead of Fertilizer, which proposed to develop organic fertilizer demonstrations in 100 main fruit, vegetables and tea planting counties (cities, regions) this year and to achieve the targets of a drop of more 20% in use of fertilizer in dominant fruit/vegetable/tea production areas and a fall of more 50% in use of fertilizer in demonstration zones of core production bases and famous brand production bases by 2020.

The market size of organic fertilizer industry in 2016 should reach 94 billion RMB. Organic fertilizer industry still maintains an annual growth of 12% now and has the most rapid increase in fertilizer sector. Judging from demand, 2016 commercial organic fertilizer use should be 14.52 million MT, up 4.9% from 2015, with an average annual growth rate of 2.8% since 2012. Supported by favorable policies, the market size of organic fertilizer would top 105 billion RMB in 2017, and the consumption would exceed 15.5 million MT.
