Beet Processing New Capacity Expansion over 3 Million Tons

According to the national reform plan on crop farming, the acreage of sugar crops shall stabilize around 24 million mu till 2020, of which sugar cane area shall be 21 million mu, so beet area shall be 3 million mu. Till 2016/17 campaign, beet acreage is 1.7 million mu, hence there is still a gap. In the long term, beet sugar shall still enjoy a great potential.

Beet sugar has attracted attention from sugar producers and investment agencies in recent years. From 2016 to date, at least five companies have either set up new or expanded beet sugar production capacity in Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, the investment has totaled 1.89 billion yuan. In the end of 2018, the new increase of beet processing capacity shall be larger than 3 million tons and the new increase of beet sugar production shall be close to 500,000 tons.
