Estimates of Grain Production in 2012 ~ 2013
By CnAgri2013-01-21 10:50:53 Print China’s planted grain acreage, grain production and yield were estimated to be 111.267 million hectares, 589 million MT and 5,299kg/hectare in 2012, up 0.63%, 3.21% and 2.57% respectively on the year-on-year basis. The nation’s multiple cropping index was about 90.92%.Planted winter wheat acreage, winter wheat production and yield were 22.645 million hectares, 113.59 million MT and 5,016kg/hectare in 2012, up 0.19%, 2.37% and 2.17% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Spring wheat acreage, production and yield were 1.767 million hectares, 6.938 million MT and 3,927kg/hectare.
Corn acreage, production and yield were 35.252 million hectares, 208 million MT and 5,898kg/hectare in 2012, up 5.1%, 7.86% and 2.62% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Spring-planted corn acreage and production were 23.397 million hectares and 139.7 million MT, up 6.96% and 11.41% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Summer-planted corn acreage and production were 11.855 million hectares and 68.21 million MT, up 1.61% and 1.25% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Paddy acreage, production and yield were estimated to be 30.182 million hectares, 203 million MT and 6,728kg/hectare in 2012, up 0.41%, 0.41% and 1.02% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Barley acreage was 723,000 hectares in 2012, an expansion of 16.3% on the year-on-year basis. Barley production was 2.472 million MT.
In 2013, grain acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 111.198 million hectares, 604 million MT and 5,435kg/hectare (based on last five years’ average), down 0.06%, up 2.51% and up 2.57% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Winter wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 22.674 million hectares, 114.4 million MT and 5,048kg/hectare in 2013, up 0.13%, 0.76% and 0.63% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Spring wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 1.743 million hectares, 7.048 million MT and 4,043kg/hectare in 2013, down 1.31%, up 1.59% and up 2.93% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Corn acreage is predicted to be 36.108 million hectares in 2013, including 24.166 million hectares of spring corn and 11.941 million hectares of summer corn. Corn production is predicted to be 220 million MT in 2013, including 150.17 million MT spring corn and 69.87 million MT summer corn.
Paddy acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 30.299 million hectares, 204.6 million MT and 6,753kg/hectare respectively in 2013. Slow yield growth curbs paddy production increase.
Subject to falling barley price and rotation of crops, barley acreage and production may shrink to 702,000 hectares and 2.359 million MT this year, down 3.19% and 3.19% respectively on the year-on-year basis. But barley yield may go up 2.99% to a level of 3,525kg/hectare.
