Government Attaches Great Importance to Agriculture

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-02-25 11:22:58China Agriculture Report Print Agricultural modernization finds expression in productivity, agricultural structure and operational system. China’s agricultural productivity lags far behind the world’s advanced level.

The central government announces its agricultural strategy in the No. 1 document each year. This year’s document features the following:

First, major farm product supply mechanism should be established. Major crop acreage should be stabilized. Crop productivity should be improved. Livestock product quality and feed utilization should be improved. Farm product distribution should be optimized. To ensure supply, it is necessary for the government to regulate the market. As farm product imports is an important way to make up for the market shortage, the government needs to enhance its regulation of farm product foreign trade.

Second, the government intends to give more support to agriculture and intensify its protection of agricultural resources and major agricultural regions, to promote the advance of agricultural productivity.

Third, innovation should be made in agricultural operational system and farmers’ systemization should be developed to promote agricultural productivity. Farmland use contract system should be stabilized. Farmers’ land use right is allowed to be transferred so that scale farm production and industrial farm production can be carried out.

Farmers’ cooperatives of various kinds may exist for a long time as a major form of agricultural production, but industrialized backbone agricultural enterprises should be the major form of agricultural operation in the future.
