International Woods Demand and Price in 2013

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-03-13 11:02:36China Agriculture Report Print According to a recent report, the international demand for timber started to rise after economic downturn. As can be seen from relevant data tables, consumption of wood products in Europe, the Soviet countries and the North America in recent years increased 5.6%. The agency also pointed out that the demand for timber will also increase in 2012 according to annual market review on wood products.

Meanwhile, timber purchasing price also rose 6.6%. The UNECE Executive Officer pointed out that one of the biggest reasons for the rising was increase of small villas. Last month, a Forest Research Association representative presented that emerge of wood fuel plants will lead to the situation that in the future timber demand is greater than supply.

In early time, timbers that used for production of solid wood flooring were all imported from Southeast Asia. But large scale of cutting and single supply mode led to overexploitation of local forest resources. Now, Africa, South America, Eastern Europe and other countries have great forest resources to be developed. With diversified development of 100 wood species, the global supply of timber resources can meet the demand.

With recovery of global economy from the financial crisis, investment in fixed assets continued with substantial growth and expansion of consumption demand from daily life and production and the faster pace of the urbanization process in China have promoted the development of the real estate investment.  The number of residential construction and renovation increased accordingly. Therefore, the closely related flooring market shows great development space.

It is understood that National Solid wood flooring production has exceeded 20 million square meters in 2003-2004, an increase of more than 40%. Only during the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, more than 200 million square meters urban residences were completed and delivered to buyers and meanwhile, the vast majority of urban housings entered into the second decoration period. As one of the main materials for interior decoration, floor timber’s demand will continue to expand.
