Cotton Imports by Country, Province and Enterprise in February

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-04-10 11:33:49China Agriculture Report Print According to the customs, China’s uncombed cotton imports registered 378,800 MT in February, valuing $711 million, down 17% and 17% respectively from the month before, down 38% and 50% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Cotton imports came from 25 countries in February. Imports from India, the USA and Uzbekistan registered 184,300 MT, 115,800 MT and 22,000 MT respectively, accounting for 48.66%, 30.56% and 5.8% of the total respectively.
 
21 provinces imported cotton in February. The top three were Shandong, Jiangsu and Shanghai, whose imports were 136,900 MT, 110,300 MT and 43,700 MT respectively, accounting for 36.14%, 29.12% and 11.18% of the total respectively.
 
247 companies handled cotton imports in February and the top ten’s imports totaled 117,400 MT. The Chinese Cotton Group, Xinjiang Yilong Agricultural International Cooperation Co., Ltd., Chinatex Cotton Import & Export Corp., China Cotton Reserves Corp. and Louis Dreyfus ranked top five with a volume of 19,100 MT, 17,600 MT, 13,100 MT, 13,000 MT and 11,600 MT respectively, accounting for 5.05%, 4.65%, 3.44%, 3.44% and 3.06% of the total respectively.
 
Uncombed cotton imports totaled 2.513 million MT between August of 2012 and February of 2013, a drop of 10.99% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Considering the big price gap between home and the international market, cotton imports are presumed to stay at a high level this year if quotas are abundant.
