Pork Imports Expected to Slow Down in 2013

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-04-25 11:13:55China Agriculture Report Print China’s pork imports registered 131,700 MT in the first quarter of this year, down 10.1% on the year-on-year basis. BOABC predicts that pork imports may go down to 450,000 MT this year.

Pork imports kept declining from September of 2012 to February of 2013 on the year-on-year basis, followed by a mild upturn in March. While pork price was bearish at home, pork import price was bullish this year. Considering abundant supply in the domestic market and the narrowing price gap between home and abroad, pork imports are presumed to retreat this year.
