Grain Imports & Exports in March

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-05-13 11:22:01China Agriculture Report Print According to the customs, grain imports and exports registered 996,900 MT and 71,352 MT respectively in March, up 27.61% and 3.91% respectively over the month before, down 38.99% but up 120% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain imports consisted of 289,300 MT wheat, 267,900 MT rice, 236,900 MT corn and 202,700 MT barley. Grain exports consisted of 65,726 MT rice, 5,624 MT corn and 2 MT barley.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports registered 30,767 MT and 47,267 MT respectively, up 37.73% and 45.85% respectively over the month before, up 287.36% but down 7.08% respectively on the year-on-year basis. The imports consisted of 30,007 MT denatured starch, 642 MT flour and 117 MT starch and the exports consisted of 28,573 MT flour, 10,730 MT starch and 7,964 MT denatured starch. Processed grain product imports and exports equaled to 47,333 MT and 72,718 MT grains respectively.
 
Altogether, China’s grain imports and exports in March were tantamount to 1.044 million MT and 144,000 MT raw grains respectively, down 37% but up 30% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
In terms of price, the gap was wide between the domestic and international market. Corn import price was $291/MT (CIF) in March, 20% cheaper than domestic corn. Imports of US GMO corn registered 394,100 MT in March, 99.9% of the total imports. Nearly all of the corn imports were handled by COFCO.
