Estimates of Cotton Acreage & Production in 2013
By CnAgri2013-05-22 11:31:21 Print 7.2 million MT cotton underwent notarized quality verification in China in 2012/2013 by May 19, including 4.471 million MT in Xinjiang, 740,600 MT in Shandong, 590,100 MT in Hubei, 580,800 MT in Hebei, etc. Cotton production is estimated to be 7.887 million MT in 2012.According to the National Bureau of Statistics, planted cotton acreage may shrink 6.2% this year from last year.
BOABC predicts that planted cotton acreage and cotton production may be 4.921 million hectares and 7.481 million MT in 2013, down 5.05% and 5.15% respectively from last year.
In view of large quantities of cotton imports and low returns from cotton production, farmers are presumed to cut cotton acreage in Henan, Hebei, Jiangsu and Anhui to make room for grains this year.
