Grain Consumption for Alcohol & Feed Production in 2012

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-06-21 10:55:10China Agriculture Report Print China’s grain production registered 589.6 million MT in 2012, including 536 million MT grains, 17.32 million MT beans and 32.79 million MT tuber crops, up 3.21%, up 3.79%, down 9% but up 1.3% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Grain production outran consumption, resulting in a grain price index decline.
 
Beer production and distilled spirit production recorded 49.02 million kiloliters and 11.53 million kiloliters respectively in 2012, up 3.1% and 18.5% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Household alcohol consumption totaled 11.33 million kiloliters, a drop of 0.53% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Statistics show that pork, beef and mutton production was 64.06 million MT in 2012, 5.12% more than the previous year. Pork, beef and mutton consumption was 39.87 million MT, up 2.41% on the year-on-year basis. Pork production outran consumption, giving rise to a price decline. But fish production lagged behind consumption, giving rise to a growing price.
 
Poultry meat, egg and aquatic product consumption recorded 14.93 million MT, 15.89 million MT and 20.61 million MT respectively, exceeding the previous year by 3.31%, 7.44% and 8.52% respectively.
 
Livestock product consumption was below production, attributable to waste, inaccurate statistics and exaggeration of production.
