Grain Imports & Exports in May

According to the customs, China’s grain imports and exports registered 769,900 MT and 37,363 MT respectively in May, down 31.37% and 34.36% respectively from the month before, down 43.19% and 2.65% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain imports consisted of 283,200 MT wheat, 160,600 MT rice, 66,600 MT corn and 259,900 MT barley in May, down 49.12%, 62.44%, 42.73% and 1.85% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain imports totaled 4.68 million MT in January ~ May, a slip of 34.53% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain exports consisted of 35,587 MT rice, 1,774 MT corn and 2 MT barley in May.
 
So far, non state-run companies have basically used all of their wheat import quotas and more than 50% of their corn and rice import quotas.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports registered 22,291 MT and 50,757 MT respectively in May, down 3.86% but up 5.83% respectively against the month before, down 15.59% but up 26.8% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Processed grain product imports consisted of 22,291 MT denatured starch, 1,469 MT flour and 177 MT starch. The exports consisted of 26,335 MT flour, 12,457 MT starch and 11,964 MT denatured starch.
 
In terms of raw grains, China’s total grain imports and exports were 804,000 MT and 115,000 MT respectively in May, down 42.39% but up 15.49% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
