It seems that the struggle against corruption and the building of a clean and honest government is a never-ending topic in China. Related to concerns about corruption, three types of official consumption have been identified: governmentspending on official receptions; vehicles; and overseas trips. The National Bureau of Corruption Prevention of China formulated a 2008-12 Work Plan for Establishing the System of Preventing and Punishing Corruption in June 2008, aiming at the effective prevention of corruption. The prohibition of alcohol consumption during official receptions included in the Ten Provisions for Strengthening the Military’s Style of Work last December negatively affected alcohol consumption and served as a signal that the government will curb recreational activities that utilise public funds. The government is likely to start taking concrete and strict measures to deal with corruption issues in China under the new leadership, in our view.Recommended Reports »
