Grain Supply & Consumption in July

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-08-30 11:14:35China Agriculture Report Print China’s planted grain acreage, grain production and grain imports are predicted to be 111.3 million hectares and 594.9 million MT and 16.3 million MT respectively this year. While grain supply grows, grain consumption slows down, likely to result in a high year-end inventory of 252 million MT and a safety index of 42.23%.
 
Grain consumption for food use was 23.392 million MT in July, including 8.427 million MT consumed by rural households, 6.695 million MT consumed by urban households and 8.271 million MT by the catering industry, down 1.18%, down 3.17%, up 1.3% but down 1.08% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Grain consumption for food use totaled 160 million MT in January ~ July, an increase of 4.1% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain consumption for feed production was 15 million MT in July and 94.61 million MT in January ~ July, down 2.11% but up 0.19% respectively on the year-on-year basis, deducting oilseed meal consumption.
 
Grain consumption for alcohol production was 4.016 million MT in July and 22.663 million MT in January ~ July, up 8.75% and 8.75% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain consumption for industrial uses was 6.53 million MT in July, 5.19% less than the month before but 3.92% more than the same period of last year. Grain consumption for this use totaled 49.17 million MT in January ~ July.
 
3 million MT grains were consumed for the production of 2.01 million MT starch in July. Starch production generated a profit of RMB145/MT but ethanol production a loss of RMB389/MT in July.
 
Grain consumption for various uses totaled 46.752 million MT in July. Grain inventory was 338 million MT at the end of July, suggesting a monthly consumption index of 7.23.
 
Grain inventory in July consisted of 101.7 million MT paddy, 67.1 million MT corn, 126.3 million MT wheat, 2.185 million MT barley and 40.325 million MT others. Of the total inventory of wheat, paddy and corn, 133 million MT were state reserve, 98.5 million MT on-farm stock and 63.21 million MT other stock.
