Analysis of Rice Processing Enterprises’ Performance in 2013

Based on data from the NBS and BOABC’s research, flour industry continued stratifying. Many enterprises quited market and some powerful enterprises continued with technology reform. Total capacity kept expanding. Operating rate of large scaled enterprises saw significant decline.

By the end of 2013, number of rice processing enterprises totaled 18200, declining 10500 compared with 2012. But number of enterprises with annual revenue of over 20 million yuan increased 100 to 5057. Though number of enterprises reduces, total industry capacity kept increasing to 592 million MT, of which, capacity of enterprises above designated size was 473 million MT and that of medium and small enterprises was 119 million MT. Average capacity of enterprises above designated size was 333MT and that of medium and small enterprises was 17MT.

  As for rice production, it registered 124 million MT in 2013, up 2.30% from 2012, of which, production of of enterprises above designated size was 118 million MT and that of medium and small enterprises was 10.43 million MT. Based on average capacity, operating rate of rice enterprises was 31.3%, basically the same with 2012. Operating rate of large enterprises reached 33.2%, down 3.8% and that of small enterprises was 21.8%, highest level in recent years.
  
In 2013, grain purchase declined by Sinograin and medium and small enterprises reduced significantly as well influenced by labor cost increase. The rest small enterprises payed more attention to services in surrounding rural areas and their operating rate was improved by sufficient supply of raw grains. In large enterprises, raw grain supply was limited as transporting fee clearly increased with a larger scope of purchasing. On the other hand, turnovers of processed grain products were limited by liquidity, which caused operating rate of large enterprises to slide faster than average level of all processing enterprises.
