Grain Imports & Exports in Mar. 2014

According to the Customs, China’s grain imports registered 1.6 million MT in Mar., a significant increase of 158.42% on the year-on-year basis. Imports of other grains were 317,000MT, mainly kaoliang, increasing 6200% YOY. As for raw grains, exports of wheat, rice, corn and barley totaled 8,251MT, of which, 7015MT was rice. Of the total imports of 1.2804 million MT, 539,000 MT were wheat, 152,200 MT rice, 48,100 MT corn and 541,100 MT barley, up 8627%, -43.17%, -79.70% and 166.99% respectively on the year-on-year basis. For import enterprises, 20 enterprises handled wheat import in Mar. in China and import quantity of top 5 enterprises accounted for 95.07% of total import quantity. The top 5 enterprises were COFCO, Jianfa Raw Material Trading Corporation, Xianmen Mingsui Grains&Oils Trading Co., Ltd., Four Gardener and Ala Shankou Wanda Co., Ltd., with import quantity of 402,400MT, 50,500MT, 32,900MT, 15,200MT and 11,300MT respectively, accounting for 74.64%%, 9.37%, 6.11%, 2.81% and respectively. 16 enterprises handled corn import in Mar. in China and import quantity of top 5 enterprises accounted for 45.18% of total import quantity, less intensive than wheat import. The top 5 enterprises were COFCO, Xiamen C&D Corporation, Shandong New Hope Liuhe Group, Qingdao Yijia Trading Co., Ltd. and Qingdao Rungu International Trading Company with import accounting for 57.60%, 20.80%, 6.49%, 3.59% and 2.69% respectively. 75 enterprises handled rice import in Mar. in China and import quantity of top 5 enterprises registered 59,300MT, accounting for only 38.92% of total import quantity. The top 5 enterprises were all Guangdong enterprises and Guangzhou Shenghaoyi Trading Co.,Ltd. ranked first with import of 17,400MT, accounting for 11.40%. 23 enterprises handled kaoliang import in Mar. In China. Guangdong Junjie Agricultural Products Trading Co., Ltd., Jianfa Raw Material Trading Company and Shanghai Shangshi International Trading Group ranked top 3 with import quantity of 131,500MT, 60,600MT and 24,100MT, accounting for 42.85%, 19.74% and 7.87% respectively. (For more information please refer to China Kaoliang Import and Export Collection by Enterprise in April ) 42 enterprises handled barley import in Mar. in China and import quantity of top five enterprises accounted for 48.68% of total import quantity. The top 3 enterprises were Xiamen Xiangyu Import, China Resources Snow Breweries and Beijing Yanjing Beer with import quantity of 78,900MT, 68,000MT and 48,500 MT respectively, accounting for 14.58%, 12.57%, and 8.96% respectively.
 
As for grain manufactured products, exports of flour, corn starch and modified starch totaled 33,700MT, down 28.66% YOY and exports were 51,900MT. Specifically, exports of flour, starch and modified starch were 14,400MT, 6,151MT and 13,200MT respectively, down 49.55%, 42.67% and up 6518% respectively YOY. Grain manufactured products imports totaled 29,700MT in Mar., up 3.41% YOY and up16.22% MOM, equal to 45,700MT raw grains. Specifically, imports of modified starch, flour and starch were 27,100MT, 2529MT and 53MT respectively in Mar. On the whole, grain exports were 60,000MT in Mar., down 58.36% YOY. Grain imports were 1.326 million MT in Mar., up 27% YOY.
