Reasons for Preference to Beet Sugar

1) There is always shortage of sugar supply. Sugar production fluctuates between 9-13 million tons, but consumption is about 15 million tons, and there is steady growth of consumption. Insufficient supply is phenomenal.

2) It is hard for cane sugar to raise production capacity. In the south cane farming is linked with processing, new plants cannot get cane supply. COFCO Sugar purchased Yongxin Huatang Sugar for the sake of cane supply but it was a failure.

3) The reform of crop farming structure in the North brings an opportunity for beet farming. The reform would readjust corn farming and encourage beet growing.

4) The North has beet farming advantage. Both Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang are appropriate for beet sugar accumulation thanks to the sandy oil and cold weather. Sugar content in beets is 16% in Inner Mongolia, or 17-18%, better than the European level.
