China’s planted grain acreage, grain production and yield hit a record high level of 111.267 million hectares, 589 million MT and 5,299kg/hectare respectively in 2012, up 0.63%, 3.21% and 2.57% respectively on the year-on-year basis. The nation’s cropping index was 90.92%.
 
Winter wheat acreage, production and yield registered 22.645 million hectares, 113.59 million MT and 5,016kg/hectare respectively in 2012, up 0.19%, 2.37% and 2.17% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Spring wheat acreage, production and yield were 1.673 million hectares, 6.59 million MT and 3,940kg/hectare respectively.
 
Corn acreage, production and yield were 35.275 million hectares, 208 million MT and 5,893kg/hectare respectively in 2012, up 5.11%, 7.85% and 2.61% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Spring-planted corn acreage and production were 23.452 million hectares and 140 million MT respectively, up 6.95% and 11.39% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Summer-planted corn acreage and production were 11.803 million hectares and 67.95million MT respectively, up 1.64% and 1.23% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Planted paddy acreage, paddy production and yield were 30.184 million hectares, 203 million MT and 6,728kg/hectare respectively in 2012, up 0.41%, 0.6% and 1.01% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Planted barley acreage and barley production were 704,700 hectares and 2.405 million MT in 2012, up 17.12% and 16.01% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain price index averaged RMB2,506/MT during May of 2012 and February of 2013, up 5.9% on the year-on-year basis, conducive to grain production in 2013. Specifically, wheat, paddy, corn and barley prices were RMB2,234/MT, RMB2,735/MT, RMB2,424/MT and RMB1,996/MT respectively on average in the period, up 13.69%, up 12.41%, up 6.09% but down 0.59% respectively on the year-on-year basis, adjusted for price.
 
In 2013, planted grain acreage, grain production and yield are predicted to be 111.218 million hectares, 599 million MT and 5,384kg/hectare respectively, down 0.04%, up 1.56% and up 1.6% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 24.398 million hectares, 121 million MT and 4,960kg/hectare respectively in 2013, up 0.33%, 0.7% and 0.37% respectively on the year-on-year basis. The advance of mechanization and the transfer to cotton production to western provinces are conducive to the expansion of wheat acreage in North China and the lower and middle reaches of the Yellow River and Huai River.
 
Spring wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 22.732 million hectares, 114.3 million MT and 5,028kg/hectare in 2013, up 0.39%, 0.63% and 0.24% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Spring wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 1.666 million hectares, 6.719 million MT and 4,035kg/hectare in 2013, down 0.44%, but up 1.95% and 2.4% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Corn acreage is predicted to be 35.92 million hectares in 2013, including 24.389 million hectares of spring corn and 11.531 million hectares of summer corn. Corn production is predicted to be 219 million MT in 2013, including 150.79 million MT spring corn and 67.87 million MT summer corn.
 
Paddy acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 30.302 million hectares, 204.6 million MT and 6,753kg/hectare in 2013.
 
Barley acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 6.274 million hectares, 2.037 million MT and 3,486kg/hectare in 2013, down 10.98%, down 15.3% but up 2.15% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Barley production is presumed to be affected by downslope price, crop rotation and drought in western provinces.
