Urban Grain Consumption in 2012

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-04-24 10:44:00China Agriculture Report Print According to the National Bureau of Statistics, urban per capita grain consumption quantity went down but grain consumption value increased in the fourth quarter of 2012.
 
Urban per capita grain consumption value was RMB119.51 in the fourth quarter of last year, up 3.2% over the previous quarter and up 2.36% on the year-on-year basis. But grain consumption quantity dropped 1.27%, adjusted for price. Flour and rice consumption went down on account of increased livestock product consumption.
 
Per capita flour and rice consumption value recorded RMB11.04 and RMB55.07 respectively in the fourth quarter, up 10.84% and 8.86% respectively over the previous quarter, down 0.9% but up 2.9% respectively on the year-on-year basis.  Rice/flour price ratio was 1.46, down 0.98% from the previous quarter but up 1.17% on the year-on-year basis. Processed grain product consumption value was RMB53.4, down 3.35% from the previous quarter but up 3.11% on the year-on-year basis.
 
The nation’s urban grain consumption value registered RMB82.556 billion in the fourth quarter, up 3.2% over the previous quarter and up 6.52% on the year-on-year basis. Urban grain consumption value totaled RMB316.748 billion in 2012, up 8.76% on the year-on-year basis.
 
The combined grain consumption value of the top six provinces (Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hubei and Henan) totaled RMB32.8 billion in the fourth quarter, up 3% over the previous quarter. Their consumption value hit RMB127.3 billion in 2012, up 7% on the year-on-year basis.
