Slack Season for Pork Consumption Comes

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-05-23 11:05:15China Agriculture Report Print Pork: On May 22nd, in the pork wholesale markets of the 36 medium-and-large sized cities, the average price of pig carcass was RMB18.49Yuan/KG, down 0.54% compared with last week. For this week, the price of live hog was RMB12.74Yuan/KG, up 2.01% compared with last week. Pork price stopped declining and rebound slightly this week and slaughter price for live hog saw both increase and decrease and generally increase slightly. With release of second round of pork reserve, domestic live hog and pork prices stopped declining to increase. But the favorable supports were temporary. According to BOABC, domestic inventory of live hog kept at high level and the inventory increased 0.7% in April compared with last month. Elimination of excess capacity went slowly. Besides, with temperature rising, pork consumption enters slack season. It is predicted pork price shall fluctuate at low level and lack upward momentum. (Figure 1)
