Rice Pests and Diseases Occur Seriously

Major pests include rice planthopper, rice leaf roller and stripped rice borer, which will be 15m hectares. Major diseases are rice blast, rice sheath blight and rice viral disease, which will be 6m hectares.
 
Rice planhhopper occur seriously in South China, Jiangnan Area and southern region of the Southwest, moderately in middle and lower reach of the Yangtze River, total occurrence will be 6m hectares, rice leaf roller will occur moderately in most South China, Jiangnan Area and middle reach of Yangtze River, and seriously in local areas, total occurrence will be 4.5m hectares. Stripped rice borer will outbreak in middle reach of Yangtze River, and seriously Jiangnan Area and northern region of the South China, total occurrence will be 3.3m hectares. Yellow rice borer will occur slightly in South China and moderately in local areas, with its occurrence to be 0.6m hectares.
 
Rice blast will occur seriously in South China, Jiangnan Area and middle and lower reach of the Yangtze River, total occurrence will be 4.3m hectares, rice sheath blight will occur moderate in South China, Jiangnan Area and Southwest, certain infected varieties will occur seriously, and total occurrence will be 1m hectares. Rice black-streaked dwarf is likely to occur in South China, Jiangnan Area and local areas in the Southwest. Besides, bacterial leaf blight and bakanae disease will be 0.6m hectares.
 
According to National Climate Center, there will be more rainfalls in coastal areas in South China and eastern China, the temperature is lower than previous years in northern region of South China, which is positive for the occurrence of rice pests and diseases. While it is almost the reverse in most South China, Jiangnan Area, middle and lower reach of Yangtze River, which is positive for the occurrence of borer, however not good news for other major pests and diseases. So there will be dramatic regional disparity for rice diseases, rice planthopper and rice leaf roller will be serious in the south and slight in the north, while for rice borer and rice diseases, it will be the reverse in the north and south.
