Estimates of Grain Acreage & Production in 2013

By CnAgri2013-07-23 11:09:56 Print China’s composite grain price index was RMB2,526/MT in June, down 0.87% from the month before but up 3.84% on the year-on-year basis, adjusting for currency value change. Specifically, wheat, rice, corn and barley wholesale prices recorded RMB2,408/MT, RMB2,731/MT, RMB2,370/MT and RMB1,919/MT respectively, down 1.98%, 0.33%, 0.82% and 2.95% respectively from the month before, up 14.91%, up 2.18%, down 0.42% and down 1.97% respectively on the year-on-year basis, adjusting for currency value change.
 
Planted grain acreage and grain production are predicted to be 111.329 million hectares and 595 million MT respectively this year, 0.06% and 0.97% more than last year respectively.
 
Harvested winter wheat acreage is estimated to be 22.704 million hectares this year, 0.26% more than last year. Some farmers cut cotton acreage to make room for wheat. Winter wheat production is estimated to be 110 million MT this year.
 
Spring wheat acreage and production are estimated to be 1.587 million hectares and 6.53 million MT, 7.31% and 2.81% less than last year respectively.
 
Spring corn acreage and production are estimated to be 24.326 million hectares and 146 million MT, 3.86% and 6.81% more than last year respectively. Summer corn acreage and production are estimated to be 12.065 million hectares and 70.29 million MT, 2.22% and 3.44% more than last year respectively.
 
Paddy acreage and production are estimated to be 30.721 million hectares and 209.0 million MT, 1.66% and 2.81% more than last year respectively.
 
Specifically, early paddy acreage and production are about 5.791 million hectares and 34.241 million MT, 0.99% and 3.42% more than last year respectively. Single-cropping paddy acreage and production are estimated to be 18.634 million hectares and 137.51 million MT, 2.12% and 1.03% more than last year respectively. Late paddy acreage and production are estimated to be 6.296 million hectares and 37.325 million MT, 0.92% and 0.94% more than last year respectively.
 
In terms of paddy variety, japonica acreage and production are estimated to be 10.34 million hectares and 72.36 million MT, 4.62% and 4.48% more than last year respectively; Indica acreage and production are estimated to be 20.377 million hectares and 136.72 million MT, 0.22% and 1.94% more than last year respectively.
 
Barley acreage and production are estimated to be 637,400 hectares and 2.056 million MT, 9.56% and 14.51% less than last year respectively.
