Estimates of Cotton Production in 2013 Declines

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-09-25 13:39:38China Agriculture Report Print Planted cotton acreage is estimated to be 4.901 million has in China in 2013/2014, a reduction of 5.45% from last year. Xinjiang and Gansu jointly contribute to 45.3% of the nation’s total cotton acreage, but cotton acreage may shrink 8 ~ 13% in East China.
 
Cotton yield is estimated to drop in North China this year because of excessive rains and drop in the Yangtze River reaches because of drought.
 
Seed cotton and lint cotton productions are predicted to be 19.456 million MT and 7.374 million MT respectively this year, down 2.35% and 6.49% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Xinjiang’s lint cotton production is predicted to be 4.271 million MT, down 5.18% from last year.
