Beef & Mutton Production Plan (2013 ~ 2020) Worked Out

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-10-24 11:20:06China Agriculture Report Print The State Development Commission has recently issued National Beef & Mutton Production Development Plan (2013 ~ 2020). To achieve the plan, the government plans to invest RMB1.7 billion in major beef and mutton production regions.
 
The government plans to provide financial support to sheep-breeding farms each with an inventory of more than 800 ewes and cow-breeding farms each with an inventory of more than 300 cows, in order to upgrade their facilities.
 
The commission requires western provinces, the Northeast and North China to speed up cow and sheep production.
 
The commission plans to realize a beef production of 7.17 million MT and a mutton production of 4.45 million MT by 2015, representing an annual growth rate of 2.6% and 3.1% respectively. Farms each capable of cattle production of more than 50 heads/year and sheep production of more than 100 heads/year are to contribute to more than 33% of beef production and 35% of mutton production respectively. By 2020, beef and mutton production are to reach 7.86 million MT/year and 5.18 million MT/year respectively.
